Water Rights & Land Ownership
Glacier County is largely the Blackfeet Indian Reservation with Glacier National Park forming the western boundary along the Continental Divide. Cut Bank is the county seat. The Two Medicine and Cut Bank Creek systems drain east; the St. Mary and Milk River headwaters drain north into Canada and east into the Milk. The Blackfeet-Montana Water Compact establishes federally-reserved Tribal water rights senior to most state-administered priorities on reservation parcels.
Active state-administered rights pulled live from DNRC WRQS on 2026-06-01. Glacier spans five basins: 40F (Milk side / NE), 40T (St. Mary), 41L/41M (Marias-Two Medicine), 41P (Marias trib). Blackfeet Tribal compact rights administered separately from state WRQS.
